ABOUT US
Mynydd Sleddog Adventures is Wales’ first and only outdoor activity provider, offering husky rides and sleddog experiences with our team of racing sled dogs within the beautiful forest trails of South Alwen Forest near Cerrigydrudion, Conwy, Wales.
Our team consists of a range of breeds, including Siberian Huskies, Scandinavian Hounds, Alaskan Huskies and a German Short Haired Pointer. We bought our home in Wales in order to be able to give our son and dogs a life full of fun and adventure.
From a very young age, I was obsessed with animals in particular; wolves. I dreamed of visiting North America, Canada and Scandinavia. I loved mountains, forest, snow and ice and films such as White Fang and A Call of the Wild. I grew up wanting a dog that looked like a wolf, but my parents had other ideas, so I grew up with gun dogs, guinea pigs and rabbits.
In 2001 after much research, I finally acquired my first Siberian Husky; Taskan, a beautiful grey and white puppy with bright blue eyes. Butter wouldn’t melt, or so I thought! I soon realised that no amount of walkies was doing him any favours, so I sought help from the then secretary for the Siberian Husky Club of Great Britain. I started to work Taskan in harness, exactly what he was bred for and was bitten by the bug! Back then it wasn’t possible to compete with just one dog, so I needed to borrow a friends dog in order to race. This obviously wouldn’t be an option long term as I really wanted to race a team, so 1 dog became 2, then 3, then 4 then 6..! My sled dog obsession has taken me to some great places that many people can only dream of. I lived in the back of a van 6 weeks in the French Alps at -25 degrees, with 12 racing Siberian Huskies, we trained on the snow covered mountains in readiness for the WSA (World Sleddog Association) World Sprint Race Championships on Snow, being held in Slovakia of that year. In addition, I have been privileged to handle working Siberian Huskies in the prestigious Norsk Siberian Husky Klubb speciality show and drive a 12 dog team in the Norwegian mountain trails.
In 2012, myself and Mark got together, 18 years after being teenage sweethearts and our kennel took on a new shape. Mark had 2 German Shepherds at the time and he started to train and race bikejor with one of the GSD’s. Mark enjoyed having a dog to race in harness but that can also be let off lead, so when his 2 GSD’s passed away, we introduced Hounds into the mix. Scandinavian Hounds are a sled dog breed designed purely for sprint racing, they are fast, fun but love cuddles too.
Our dogs come from some of the best, most reputable and well respected working and show Kennels in the UK, Scandanavia and Czech Republic. We are extremely proud of both ours and our canine companions achievements so far. We have won top medals at the BSSF (British Sled Dog Sports Federation) British National Championships and also qualified to race at international level. In 2016, I was privileged to be Team GB Team Leader at the IFSS (International Federation for Sleddog Sports) World Dryland Championships, our son was just 5 weeks old at the time.
In 2018, we bred our first litter of Siberian Huskies, all of pups stayed with us. We are very much looking forward training and racing them in the seasons ahead and seeing what they will achieve.
